Dr. Palmer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Creighton University School of Medicine in 1987. He graduated in the top 1% of his class earning an Alpha Omega Alpha membership. He then completed a General Surgical Residency training with the U.S. Navy. Following this, he attended the Naval Aerospace program in Pensacola Florida, graduating at the top of his class as a flight surgeon. During the Gulf War he served the U.S. Navy as a flight surgeon, ensuring the naval pilots were in excellent health prior to any missions.
Dr. Palmer, then, pursued his ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Georgia. As chief resident, he received numerous awards and his publications have led to new innovations and treatments that are still used today. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is licensed by the State of California. After working in a group setting, he started a private practice in 2006. Dr. Palmer is an experienced ophthalmologist who has a strong focus on cataract surgery and uses the most modern treatment options. He uses minimal laser assisted cataract surgery to assist with astigmatism and presbyopia. In addition, he manages glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Palmer has enjoyed becoming part of the medical community in Folsom and Sacramento area. Living in Folsom with his wife and 2 sons has given him a true sense of what it means to be involved with the community. Coaching youth sports, being involved with his own children’s sports and music endeavors is something he cherishes. After seeing tens of thousands of patients during his career, he has developed friendships and close relationships with many of them. This is more than one could expect. In his free time he enjoys hiking, skiing, cycling and traveling, often with his wife’s family in France. He has enjoyed cycling in events in California, Colorado and Europe.
